Time to clear your wardrobe

February 9th, 2009

Too much cloths and you find your wardrobe full just like me? Well, we can either

  1. Buy a new wardrobe
  2. Or clear out those cloths which are old or those impulse buys!

I picked the second option. CLEAR those cloths of mine. I categorize the cloths to clear into 2 types:

  • Old cloths - No point keeping cloths that have holes or faded colors. You can keep a few of them so that you have old cloths to wear while house-cleaning your home in future!
  • Impulse buys and you never ever wear it! Not even once - Surely, you have this kind of cloths at home. haha. So what is the point of leaving it in your wardrobe? Either give it to someone who suits it or start a flea market stall to sell those cloths. Gather your friends who are interested to sell their cloths in a flea market and you can have fun at the same time.

Be ruthless and clear those cloths!

Know what your CPF can do for you

January 30th, 2009

Do you know that in your CPF, you have

  1. Ordinary Account - the savings can be used to buy a home, pay for CPF insurance, investment and education.

  2. Special Account - for old age, contingency purposes and investment in retirement-related financial products.

  3. Medisave Account - the savings can be used for hospitalization expenses and approved medical insurance.

And do you know that:

  • If you are 35 years old or younger, your employee pays 14.5% of your salary to CPF while you pay 20% of your salary to CPF

I don’t know the details until recently when I started to study my CPF. And do you know that

  • CPF pays 2.5% per annual interest for your money in Ordinary Account
  • is 4% per annual interest for your money on your Special and Medisave Account
  • An extra 1% of interest will be paid on the first $60,000 of the Account’s combined balances, with up to $20,000 from the OA.

If you don’t know the above as well, please visit CPF to find out more details. It is important to ‘manage’ your CPF as most of us will use it to buy one of our most expensive investment in our lifetime, which is a home.

Starting a Blog: To blog or not to blog

January 14th, 2009

This is part of my new on-going series on starting a blog. Target audience are people who are new to blogging and also those who been writing a blog but who want to start a new blog again.

I been blogging for about 2 years, the 2 hardest part of blogging is

  1. To blog or not to blog
Not enough time. We always hear complains from people of not having time to do this and that. And yes,  i also do not have enough time. Previously, I am holding a full-time job,  studying part-time and learning web technologies. Rule of the thumb is that you should only focus on 3 main task at one time. So finding time to blog was tough with the above 3 task I have on hand. But now, I just completed my studies in 2008. Come 2009, I can manage my time and set a schedule to blog. To start off my blog, I aim to have just 1 post a week. Enough content to keep my audience glue to my blog. :)
So do you think you can blog? Find out if you could set aside time to blog once a week to start off with. Once you get the hang of it, blogging will be part of your life
  2. Finding what to blog about
The aim of my first blog infigaro.com is more related to my personal life. Somehow, i find it hard to share certain aspects of my life so as times goes by, I have less and less to blog about. My second blog, mobile.islikethat.com talks about useful online software which we can all make use of. I love this blog and yet at the same time, I felt i can do more. My 3rd blog is about life in SG in richbudgetman.com. However I find lack of direction for this blog. At the time of writing this, i would have redirect the above blogs to CIOdotcom.
So my advise to blog on a topic which you have interest in or you have experience with. I have interest in the Dot Com world and also have experience to share from the views of a CIO. That is why CIOdot.com is born :)

I am ready to blog, are you ready to blog?
